There are a number of Apps that I rely on to help me improve my performance when I run or help me to track my sleep, but I’ve recently discovered a very cool new app that is helping me track and improve my skin! This is exciting news, since up until now, apart from visiting a dermatologist, it was very difficult to determine whether your skin care routine was really making a difference. They say that you need to stick to your routine for at least three months to see any improvement, but being that new products come along everyday its easy to get bored and move on to something new.
Using imaging technology from Canfield scientific the SkinBetter app can show you the brown spots that you can’t yet see, the wrinkles and redness that you have and can improve on. You just have to …take a #nomakeup selfie! Trust me this is one selfie you’re going to want to take.
I’ve had first hand experience with the technology that Canfield scientific uses. I was hired as a makeup artist to make up 4 women over the course of a year as they studied the results of Sculptra, a new injectable. Every few months I would meet these women again and give them a very basic pony tail and clean face so they could be photographed without makeup and then a very basic makeup so they could be photographed for the company.(the makeup had to be identical every time for comparisons to be done) It was amazing the improvement some of them had (I started to wish I had signed up for the trial!)
So, familiar with the technology I was willing to give this app a try, took my selfie, answered a few questions about my skin and age and what skin care concerns I had. Moment of truth, I had an average amount of wrinkles for my age and less than the average amount of brown spots, surprisingly. But taking a look at myself with the special below the surface lens, I saw LOTS more brown spots to come and plenty of redness! Gasp, this is of course mostly from sun exposure!
The App gives you some skin care recommendations which you can purchase directly through the App or you can always find similar ones on your own. The really cool part about it is that you can check back in a few months, take another selfie to see if there is any improvement, which makes it worth the time and wait to follow your routine through for three months.
So here is my winter skin care routine that I have just adopted based on the recommendations from the SkinBetter App. I’ll check back with you in three months, hopefully with glowing and more even looking skin!
