Let’s talk about the beach….
Maybe it’s because I live close to the beach all year round that for me a trip to the sea has to be either one of two types: comfy lounge chair under an umbrella with drink service or a deserted location in a landscape far different from the one on Miami Beach. I am not one who can spend hours grilling myself like a sausage (because even with SPF 50 my Canadian skin will turn the shade of a cooked lobster). No for me, under the shade of an umbrella or even better ensconced in one of those fancy beach beds, I can spend hours chatting with friends. Or whisk me away to an exotic location and I will spend hours photographing the landscape and snorkeling in the sea.
Either option though requires some beauty preparation. Have you ever arrived at the beach and covered yourself carefully with sunblock only to discover at the end of the day that your have somehow missed an unfortunate oddly shaped area that is now glowing red? Your perfect bronzage is now ruined! I have found that the best way to avoid these unfortunate mishaps is to start in your bathroom before you even leave for the beach. I like to cover myself in sunblock before donning my bikini. That way I know I didn’t miss any spots. According to my dermatologist, sunblock needs to be applied 15 minutes before going in the sun because it takes that amount of time to start working. Then after a couple of hours (if I haven’t lost track of time…) I will use a spray sunscreen to reapply. Sprays are so much easier, especially when trying to pour a cream sunscreen that has now become warm and liquid from laying in the sun, with hands full of sand. Yuck! Just the thought of it makes me want to rinse off right now!
And let’s not forget our hair! All that money spent for those perfect sun kissed highlights will only veer towards orange without protection from the UV rays. I’ve been using Living Proof Restore instant protection this summer to protect my hair. It’s light texture doesn’t weigh down my fine hair.
What is your beach style? Do you have any bronzing tips?
