Women have been whipping up face masks and beauty recipes from their kitchen cupboards for years. Remember when it was cool to wash your hair with beer? Years ago I met a model who used to rub pieces of melon and pineapple on her skin, which at the time I thought was strange but she told me it was for the acids in the fruit to exfoliate and give her a glow. (alpha hydroxy acids such as malic and citric acids come from fruits) Now it’s a very common ingredient in peels and exfoliating creams.
There are plenty of natural luxury brands that strive to find only natural ingredients for their products to replace the ones commonly used in the cosmetics industry, but why not give a simple kitchen remedy a try. You just might get hooked!
So here is my recipe for getting rid of dry and flaky lips. Use just once or twice a week to see a more moisturized lip.
Unrefined Coconut Oil– for it’s antibacterial properties and moisturizing properties
Raw Sugar – gently exfoliates
Grape Seed Oil- for it’s anti-oxidant and emollient properties
Honey- anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and delicious tasting and smelling
Almond extract– for flavor and aroma. ( you could try different flavors, such as vanilla or peppermint.)
Recipe:
2 tsp of coconut oil
2-3 tsp of sugar
1/2 of grape seed oil
1 tsp of honey
a few drops of almond extract
Mix all the oils together and then add the sugar and stir until well combined. Pop it in the fridge for a few minutes which makes the oils harden a bit and make it easier to use.
Using your finger, gently rub across your lips. Remove with a cotton bud or a warm washcloth. Follow with your favorite lip balm if desired.
