Somehow I have become rather specialized in creating a natural/healthy makeup look for photo shoots, as you can see here in my latest work for this May issue of Yoga Journal. I have also made up models and sports stars for Fitness magazine, Self, Shape, Reebok/ Crossfit, Lifetime fitness,Nike Golf, shoots for Venus Williams, Dick sporting goods to name a few.
It could be that Miami is the perfect location for these types of photo shoots but whatever the reason I have had to perfect the type of look that is natural, glowing and healthy yet can hold up to the demands of sweltering Miami heat and humidity.
I started thinking, do you, dear readers ever wear makeup when you go to your exercise class? Yoga, Bar method, Zumba?? I must admit to some subtle enhancements when going to these types of classes , the only time I haven’t is when I run, because, well frankly it is just soooo hot in Miami that everything would melt. BUT that still doesn’t stop me from swiping on my favorite lip balm! During the marathon in February Alix and I both agreed that having our lip balms with us was necessary!
During a photoshoot, which is certainly not real life, I am able to do retouches during breaks of shooting, but here are a couple of my go to products that I use when doing “natural, healthy” makeup looks that could definitely work for real life too.
After all if you are going to spend the money for Lululemon yoga pants, doesn’t your face deserve a little attention too?
Effacernes from Lancome I use as an under eye concealer or even to cover blemishes or things you may want to hide. It’s fantastic and really stays put during sweating or even swimming! ( I’ve tested it!)
Urban Decay Cannonball waterproof mascara is sure not to run down your cheeks!
Kevin Aucoin creamy moist glow gives you that fresh glowing look and is very long-lasting, although you may not need this as you will be getting your own glow on! But I always use this for photo shoots
L’Oreal advanced silky sheer BB SPF 30 If you feel you need coverage this BB is a great option as it’s a sunscreen( for those beach yoga sessions) and is very light weight and non greasy. For photo shoots I will generally use something a little more covering but as I said that’s not real life and I can touch up during takes.
Don’t forget your lip balm! Burt’s Bees tinted or untainted lip balms are my current favorites! Have you tried the new revitalizing one with blueberry & dark chocolate? Smells divine!
Je vais faire sensation au cours de Pilates demain matin… see u there? 😉
Excellent!
A natural look is the best and most beautiful, but yeah sure I wear make-up to the gym and classes 🙂
Nice post!
