This season’s makeup trends tend to be heavy on the eyes with many looks referencing the 60’s. Like the gorgeous clothes that are shown on the runway, the makeup sets the mood of the season but can be adapted to be wearable in reality.

Following are four looks from the Fall runways that are completely wearable for Fall, with a few little reality tweaks to make them street ready.

  1. Lashes, lashes, and more lashes:

This nod to the 60’s look was seen at Prada, Gucci, Rochas, and  St. Laurent.

It’s an easy look to achieve and infinitely wearable, because who doesn’t love pretty lashes!

Load both your top and bottom lashes with mascara. You can layer your mascara by first applying a lengthening one followed by a thickening one on top. To make your mascara look deliberately clumpy, use your fingers to hold clumps of lashes together before the mascara dries. Line your waterline with a flesh toned pencil.

For an evening out you could use false lashes to enhance the effect. Individual lashes are easier to use than a full strip.

Keep it looking modern by leaving the rest of the face quite bare.

Dior Couture FW14

Seen in many variations at runway shows such as Sass & Bide, Chanel, Donna Karan, Emporio Armani, Issey Miyaki and Altazurra, this is my favorite makeup update. It’s easy to apply and can be adapted in several ways.

First way- Silver liner. Line your top lashes in black and line the bottom ones in a sliver liner. It doesn’t need to be strong like on the runways but the silver liner underneath gives the eyes a modern take on the 60’s look. Pair this with pale lips and lots of mascara for a perfect party look. Or take on an ethereal look like at Dior Couture and just line the upper lashes in silver, keeping the rest of the face natural with just a hint of blush and pale lips.

Second Way- A pop of silver in the  inner corners of the eyes like the look seen at Emporio Armani and Donna Karan brings light to the eyes. Line your eyes with black or charcoal and blend to soften leaving the inner corner bare. Add a touch of silver liner or a bit of silvery highlighter to the inner corner.

Third Way-  Take a coppery metallic shadow and apply all over the lid in a back and forth motion kind of like a windshield wiper with a blending brush. Add mascara and a touch of liner if you feel you need it. This is the easiest look to achieve and a modern take on the smokey eye. Copper shadow looks fantastic on blue or green eyes.

3. Green:

Which brings me to a new color to try- green or khaki shades swept over the lids. A cool new shade to experiment with, it’s beautiful swept across the lids like at Derek Lam ( keep it to the top lid for real life) and even in a metallic khaki tone like at Dior.

4. Perfect Skin:

The emphasis was on bare faces and perfect skin all throughout the Fall runways.

Leave the dewy look for summer and start into fall with one of the new foundation formulas that leave your skin looking flawless but without being heavy. Keep the finish somewhat matte and apply a sheer dusting of powder especially in the t-zone.

This look is especially lovely with a strong, well-groomed brow.
