The Foundation of a Great Makeup

I think foundation can be quite controversial. On the one hand we want to look flawless but on the other we don’t really want anyone to know we are wearing foundation! For everyday, a BB or CC cream (or nothing) works perfectly well, but for those special occasions, a date, a wedding, whatever it may be, foundation is a makeup secret weapon! The trick is to make it look flawless and that’s where the makeup artist comes in. That is what we spend our days doing (really you say? What a strange profession!) because perfecting someone’s skin is the foundation of a great makeup.

In my kit I have an arsenal of foundations in every shade imaginable. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite ones and why I use them.

• All you need to start is to find your perfect shade in the foundation you have chosen. The best way to do this is to try it on your neck and if the foundation is not visible on your skin, then you have found your match.
• Natural light is the best place to judge this, and ask a friend to come with you to give their opinion.
• Next try a primer (more on that in my next post) or just make sure your skin is well moisturized. You have a choice of tools to put on your foundation, a dampened sponge, foundation brush, or fingers, and they all work it’s just a personal preference. Sometimes I start out with a foundation brush only to switch to using my fingers to blend it well.
• Put a few drops on the back of your hand and starting in the center of your face ( around the nose , chin area) start blending your foundation out towards the sides of your face. You really don’t need much, just enough to even out your complexion.
• Make sure you have really blended everything in, especially around the jaw line. (no masks please)
• *The trick is to not mask your face completely. You are just evening out your complexion.
• At this point you can see if you really have anything you need to conceal. Apply only where needed.
• Finish with a light dusting of powder only in the t-zone ( the area around the nose, chin and center of the forehead) if needed.

You should look flawlessly natural, in a way that makes people wonder if you are or aren’t wearing makeup.
