Last week I proposed a summer beauty look with glowing skin and a matte bright pink lip. This week I wanted to show you how you can take this look into the evening with a super easy smokey eye technique that anyone can master.
This look was inspired by my days as a model, in the 90’s ( ok I’m really dating myself!). I was reminiscing with a friend of mine who also modeled in the good old days (90’s) and how we would sometimes do our own makeup for photoshoots.”Remember when a smokey eye didn’t involve 15 steps, eye shadow primer and professional blending techniques?” she said. ” All I used to do was take my eyeliner, trace all along my upper and lower lash line and blend with a q-tip or a finger. Some of my best shots were with makeup like this and I didn’t even have to put on mascara!” It’s true that although a pro blended smokey eye is gorgeous, most women don’t have time to try this or the skills to attempt it. This technique that I propose, although basic, really lends a certain sexy quality to the makeup. It’s not perfect but it’s perfectly undone.
In the video we started by removing the bright pink lip, and adding a little more bronzer.
Step 1: With an eye pencil that blends well (I like Charlotte Tilbury’s rock’n’khol in Barbarella Brown it blends beautifully) Line the upper and lower lash line as close to the lashes as possible, even going into the water line. You want the darkest part of the liner to be on the lash line.
Step 2: Blend with a blending brush ( I like ) and then continue to blend over your lid towards your crease. You want the color to fade away gradually, the key to a smokey eye.
Step 3: Blend under the eye as well. Don’t worry if you feel it looks messy, just grab a q-tip dipped in remover or moisturizer cream and clean up under the eyes.
Step 4: A nude lip ALWAYS complements a smokey eye ( I love this Lip pencil in Madeira from Bite Beauty)
And voilà! A look that lends itself to hot summer nights, mojitos and long lingering gazes.
