Orange is the new red… for lips anyway.
Orange lips were all over the spring 2104 runways and even at the Oscars. And it surprisingly suits every skin tone. Amy Adams and Lupita Nyong’o , who have very different skin tones, were both rocking an orange lip at the Oscars.
It’s a fresh, summery take on lip color that brightens the whole face. It may seem scary to try but really it’s super easy to make this look work for you. If you are reluctant to try a bright orange, start with a sheer gloss in a peachy orange shade. Here are a couple of things to remember to keep you looking 2014 and not stuck in the 80’s.
1. Make sure to neutralize any redness or discoloration in the skin. Maybe even out your complexion with a BB or CC cream or even a foundation. Redness and orange lips don’t pair well.
2. Add a blush in a peachy or coral shade. Very pale skins may look washed out with an orange lip. Put your lipstick on first and then you can decide how much blush you really need.
3. Keep eye makeup minimal and stick to neutral tones for pale skin and bronzy tones for darker skin. If you love eyeliner, try a dark chocolate brown instead of black.( too Halloween)
4.Stay away from bronzer and blue eye makeup- that’s 80’s territory.
There are many different orange shades to choose from, some have more yellow undertones, some more red and some neutral. A red based orange is a sure bet for every skin tone. A true orange looks great on porcelain skin, bronzed skin looks gorgeous in a brighter orange that really pops and darker complexions can go warm and bold. An neon orange for the very young and very bold.
Pink lip gloss is so 2013…Will you rock the orange lip this spring?
