Men’s grooming is a segment of the market that has been somewhat overlooked until recently as cosmetic companies delve into the realm of men’s skincare…and should we say man-beauty.
It may be that it is a cultural thing, as according to Euromonitor, the men’s grooming market in South Korea is the fastest growing in the world and in Thailand male beauty bloggers are gaining in popularity. They even have a drink called “ManSome” (see here) that promises vitamins and skin hydration!
In France, men’s grooming is not so much a taboo as it has been in the US. But recently skin care companies have stepped up to market products to be more gender specific, like Dove’s men’s skin care range and Nivea with their coenzyme 10 Energy Lotion.
But my favorite as of late has to be the new launch of men’s sunscreen by Banana Boat with such a “manly” video that finally the men in my life might actually be willing to apply and reapply! (See video here)

As a makeup artist I have worked on many sets with male models and sports stars, and YES they are wearing makeup! The key is to make them have an even skin tone and to tone down the shine but some have also received eyeliner and mascara! Another key is bronzer, matte only of course to give him that just back from vacation glow and lip balm for kissable lips.
Here is a sample of my men’s grooming jobs for Lifetime Fitness. This poor male model was also covered in body oil spritzed with water to fake sweat. ( although I think it became real sweat after holding this position for a while!)
In preparation for Father’s day here are some of my recommended products for the men in your life.
