Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! We are officially in Januaury 2016 and just like that the weather in Miami has decided to change. After roasting poolside all holiday long, it is now grey, rainy and only 63F this morning! Yes that is downright balmy compared to the rest of the country, but cold for us Miamians.
With my assistant curled up next to me (my orange cat, don’t worry I pay him handsomely in top of the line cat food, even though he does no work) I thought I would share with you my beauty predictions for 2016.
My Beauty Predictions for 2016
No.1- With last season’s big trend of black eyeliners from heavy to cat eye, I think Spring 2016 will usher in a softer look with pastels dominating makeup palettes. I have seen some beautiful blue and lavender eyeliner looks for Spring. Traced along the lower lash line or used as a wash of color on the lid, pastels bring a lighter and fresher look to Spring makeup and it’s been a while since we have seen them (fashion is cyclical) Check out Pantone X Sephora’s color of the year collection aptly named Serenity and Rose Quartz.
No. 2- I don’t know if the trend for contouring will ever die ( let’s hope it takes on a more natural version) but for 2016 I see an evolution towards a glowing and radiant complexion. We will learn how to illuminate our faces with makeup artist tricks and beautiful new products that promise to give us back that youthful glow. Check out YSL’s Gypsy Opale palette with shades for skin tone correction or all over glow and Chanel has launched Les Beiges healthy glow foundation.
No. 3 – With a focus on beautiful, glowing complexions and healthy lifestyles, I think 2016 will see more beauty products that work from the inside out. People see the connection between healthy eating and beautiful skin and I think beauty drinks and beauty vitamins, like these ones from HUM, will become a big trend.
No. 4– Korean beauty will go mainstream. This last year has seen Korean beauty product’s popularity soar and finally we are all able to stock up on sheet masks stateside. Sephora started carrying a collection of Korean beauty products and Peach and Lily, my favorite online Korean beauty source, has opened a brick and mortar store in NY. I for one am a big fan of the products I have tried.
No. 5– We saw the launch of Clairsonic and Foreo Luna as new ways to clean and exfoliate our skin. In 2016 I think these trends in personal beauty tools will continue with corresponding creams and washes to go with them. Since microbeads have finally received a ban from Obama, beauty companies will have to look for other ways for us to get a deep clean. What are microbeads? They are tiny balls made from polyethylene plastic and are used in scrubs and exfoliating products even toothpaste. They cause environmental damage when washed down the drain. As they never degrade they end up in rivers and oceans and eventually the food chain. Yikes!
Let’s see if my predictions come to pass but in any case I hope 2016 brings YOU happiness and success!
