Hedi Slimane, the artistic director of Saint Laurent, has combined his passion for photography and music by creating the “ Saint Laurent Music Project.”
Not content with just revolutionizing the Brand of Saint Laurent; he moved the design studio from Paris to Los Angeles where he has lived since 2007, he changed the name of the brand from “ Maison Saint Laurent” to “Saint Laurent Paris.” He chose Grunge icons Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson for the latest campaigns and he looked to shock his audience by creating provocative fashion shows. His gambles have paid off, sales are on the rise and the brand has taken off again!
Hedi introduced the Saint Laurent Music Project through a series of black and white portraits of the biggest icons of rock and blues music, from BB King and Chuck Berri to Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson. Up next his launch of the second phase of his project: getting behind the camera. He directed a video in black and white in his signature stripped down and clean style during which we see Grace Hartzel, the current muse of Saint Laurent, simple and sensual on a deserted beach in Los Angeles.
Hedi is not only the artistic director who invented the trend of slim fit at Dior Homme during 200-2007, he is also a highly talented photographer influenced by velvet underground whose photos have been exhibited more than a few times. Lucky for us, Hedi Slimane has combined his 3 passions, photography, music and of course fashion within the Saint Laurent Music Project.
