Bénédicte Blanc-Fontenille is a French artist, a 1985 graduate of L’Ecole des Beaux Arts, living and working in Miami since 2001. Throughout her career, she has been inspired by one simple yet profound observation: That life is extremely fragile, and yet, it is our knowledge of this fact that causes us to constantly move through cycles of building up and tearing down, rising and falling, rejoicing and grieving … then doing it all over again.
“Ironically, fragility appears to me
to be energy, like an engine
that propels us forward and generates movement.
And life is nothing but movement.”
—Bénédicte Blanc-Fontenille
To Bénédicte, this constant movement represents a succession of moments, which she strives to capture in photography, sculpture and mixed media using the “stuff of life,” such as water, coffee, rust, wax, ink, paper and plaster, representing construction and destruction, strength and frailty, energy and fatigue, cherished ritual and the gradual deterioration of cultural traditions and icons, all through the passage of time. She invites her viewers to stop, look and contemplate not only the fragility of life, but the implication of movement in life.
While much of Bénédicte’s work is fun and playful, it also serves as a reminder of the fragility of life. Her art is all about movement, energy, balance and capturing fleeting moments. Bénédicte’s art is all about life.
Bénédicte’s art is All About You.
