It’s getting hot and putting on a full face of makeup doesn’t seem worth the effort if its just going to slide off your face. But what about those sultry nights out? Pool parties, tropical destination weddings, and sweaty dance floors call for makeup that stays put and waterproof makeup is about to become your new summer best friend. I’ve been working on some underwater shoots lately, an underwater night video shoot and several photo-shoots in a pool. Waterproof makeup is indispensable for this and ones that have staying power. I’ve tested out some products and the ones on these pages have stood out to work even in the wettest conditions!
Starting with the skin, if it is for a day event then sunscreen is a must. I prefer sunscreens that are water-resistant and don’t leave a white film on the skin. This is especially important if you will be photographed. My personal favorites are Natural Sun from The Faceshop and Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50 water-resistant. Both feel and smell more like moisturizers than sunscreens. For foundation, I used Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place foundation which works for humid conditions as well as underwater. Another great choice is MAC Face and Body foundation, especially if you want to camouflage something on your body. It’s lightweight in texture but covers and dries to a more glowy finish. Lancome’s Effacernes has always been in my kit because of it’s staying power during the most sweaty days and even underwater.
For dreamy blue lagoon eyes like Kennedi, use colors that will mimic the shades of the water. Silver with a bit of sparkle and violet liner add drama and depth to the eyes, perfect for a night out. On Kennedi, I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool as an eyeshadow over the lid. Color tattoo is an amazing and inexpensive product that starts out as a cream and dries quickly to stay put even underwater. I use Bad to the Bronzed on myself for a bronzey smokey eye that doesn’t budge. I added MAC glitter in silver on top of the cream eyeshadow for more sparkle and lined the bottom lashes with Makeup For Ever Aqua Eyes in Purple for drama and to bring out the color of her eyes. My favorite waterproof mascara is Urban Decay Cannonball which defines and lengthens lashes and lasts even underwater.
Long lasting Make Up Forever Aqua lip pencils are great for lining and filling in the entire lip. Then top with their long lasting lip gloss and you are ready to dance, swim and perspire all night long.

L O V E the photos! Everything about them is perfection. Your make-up is flawless. Thanks for sharing these tips- perfect for my Florida lifestyle.
One questions- can you recommend a great makeup remover for when our fun in the sun and water is over?

Great question Amy! One of my favorite ways of removing waterproof makeup is with an oil cleanser. These cleansers remove even the most stubborn waterproof mascaras and gel liners. There are many to choose from but I like the one from Shu Uemura and also MUJI has a great no nonsense oil cleanser.
