With the New Year a few days away, this could well be a post about the best beauty products of 2014 or the greatest makeup looks of the year, but you can read that on a multitude of beauty sites with a multitude of different opinions. Instead, I wanted to share with you the many things I’ve learned from running a blog.
Try things out of your comfort zone
It pushes you to reach your potential and you never know where that may lead you.
Even if it’s scary you will learn something from the experience. Ok you might not be perfect and you will have to relive the experience over and over in your mind but it’s the only way to grow.
Never stop learning
I haven’t been in school for a long time but learning new things will not only stimulate your mind but you will be surprised at how much more fun learning is when you are interested.
Blogging has taught me that I actually like delving into the “tech” part. Learning simple code like CSS is actually kind of fun, who knew?! (secretly I imagine myself makeup artist by day and coder by night…)
Don’t try to compete
Checking similar blogs from time to time or becoming a subscriber is great inspiration but constantly checking your competition is time consuming and frustrating! ( many successful blogs have a whole staff working for them). Lesson learned, stick by your vision and cultivate your readers by offering them your unique point of view.
Analytics are analytical!
Google analytics are absolutely essential in order to understand what your readers are attracted to but they are also highly time consuming and well you could just go on analyzing your blog all day! New Year’s resolution -try to keep it as a tool and not an all day analytical debate!
Enjoy!
Life is short and a beauty and lifestyle blog should bring readers a moment of fun and hopefully some tips for living their beauty life to the fullest!
Makeup and beauty tips are the fun and frivolous part of life and should be kept that way. Part of everyday but not an obsession ( i.e. some reality show stars make it seem so incredibly VITAL!)
INSTAGRAM is highly addictive
Social media is an important part of maintaining a presence for a blog but no one told me how addictive Instagram would be!
Photos speak volumes to me and being able to follow the daily moments of people I admire or photographers whose incredible photos are an inspiration, not to mention the irresistible cats and pigs whose Instagram feeds offer daily doses of cuteness, is incredibly addictive!
So with Instagram, Google analytics, other blogs, my coding classes, blogging and my actual job doing makeup for photoshoots, well 2015 looks like a busy year ahead!
Wishing you all a Happy New Year and plenty of inspiration for 2015!
have a great new year!
