I am not blessed with olive skin, like my friend who needs only fifteen minutes in the sun before turning an enviable caramel shade. No, I must take the sun sparingly and covered in sunblock or I will burn. Eventually, I will tan but I prefer to speed things along with self-tanner. Which is why I decided to try St.Tropez’s new In Shower self-tanner. I really like St. Tropez products, they give a very realistic looking tan.
Self-tanner, in the shower? Well, this is new! Usually, you need to wait at least four hours for your self-tan to develop and you can’t get wet or it will wash off. How convenient, just pop in the shower, slather on this new goop and voilà you emerge bronzed like Giselle on the beach in Ipanema!
With said self-tanner in tow, I jump in my newly renovated shower to test my new beauty product. With lovely warm water running, I attempt to read the directions. Well maybe you are younger than I am, but I can’t see minuscule writing without some glasses, so I jump out of the shower and grab them. Directions say to turn the shower off and with wet skin apply self-tanner evenly over body. Then wait three minutes. Wet with the shower off.
Standing naked (with glasses) wet and covered in cream without the shower running? I’m frozen! Maybe I should do something to distract myself. Oh yes, wash off my palms or I’ll have orange hands! Grab phone, check messages….count to 180…shiver…
Ok, finally rinse off! Emerge from shower. No tan yet. But the directions do say that the tan will develop gradually over a few hours and you can get dressed right away.
Yes, it does produce a tan, albeit gradually and more subtly than their self-tanning mousse, which I normally use. If you are not averse to taking breaks during your shower, then this is a great product to add to your beauty routine a few times a week. You rinse it off so you do not have to wait to get dressed and because your skin is wet it is much easier to apply it evenly. I did not have any streaks or orange palms.
I am not sure to be a convert, because of the shower break. I think I may stick to their mousse, even if I have to wait to get dressed!
What is your favorite self-tanning product?
